HEALTHIER AGEING

“Healthspan” over Lifespan.

Living longer is no longer the ultimate goal - living healthier for longer is.

While modern medicine has significantly increased human lifespan, the focus is shifting toward improving “healthspan” to borrow a recently coined phrase. “Healthspan” refers to the number of years we live in good health, free from chronic disease and disability.

The key to achieving a longer, healthier life lies in nutrition and lifestyle choices, which play a crucial role in preventing conditions like dementia, heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis amongst others.

Why Nutrition & Lifestyle Matter for Healthy Ageing

MAKE HEALTHSPAN YOUR GOAL

Lowering Dementia Risk

Cognitive decline is not an inevitable part of aging. Diet and lifestyle play a major role in brain health.

  • The Mediterranean diet, rich in healthy fats, leafy greens, and antioxidants, has been shown to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline.

Dementia has been reframed as potentially “Type 3 Diabetes” and metabolic health is a key part of lowering our risk for cognitive decline.

Preventing Heart Disease

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide.

  • Adopting a heart-healthy lifestyle plays a crucial role in reducing CVD risk factors.

However, recent advancements in cardiometabolic testing now allow us to identify newly established contributors to CVD development that go beyond traditional markers.

These cutting-edge tests provide a more comprehensive assessment by analysing biomarkers related to inflammation, lipid metabolism and glucose regulation.

Reducing Diabetes Risk

Type 2 diabetes or Metabolic Syndrome, is largely preventable through diet and exercise.

  • I am here to guide you through making sustainable changes to your eating habits to lower your risk factors behind these ever prevalent conditions. Maintaining insulin sensitivity, especially for women post menopause, is a key area on which we focus.

Maintaining Bone & Muscle

Bone density naturally declines with age, increasing the risk of fractures in both women and men.

  • It is in post menopausal females that we see the risk of deteriorating bone health and osteoporosis rise significantly, due in big part to the hormone deficits. Many people are all too unaware of the risks and impact both weaker bones, and poor muscle mass, can have on how they experience their older years.
